Happy Halloween, mothersuckas.
I read via Hyphen that a revival of Flower Drum Song is coming to the American Musical Theatre of San Jose.
I haven’t seen the film, so I’ve missed out on the cringe-worthy Asian cultural cliches. But watching this all-Asian American cast dance in the clip below…kinda makes me happy, especially considering that this was the early 1960s. Even seeing Nancy Kwan — forever cemented in cinematic history as Suzie Wong — lip-synch a song about a strictly superficial element of womanhood isn’t bugging me too much. I mean, at least she’s lip-synching in English. It makes Hwang’s revival all the more significant because it eliminates the hack while still acknowledging the talent of its actors, singers, and dancers. (via Hyphen)
Suki Suki shares Hyphen’s sentiment that Asians lip-synching in a barely-hanging-on towel and prancing around dressed as Chinese Take-Out boxes doesn’t have the same demonizing connotations as they used to. In fact, that’s her idea of a successful weekend.
In honor of my publicist’s birthday, I am taking the day off to bake a birthday cake with sugar water. Let’s eat carrots together until.
Reader Michelle sends us a picture of her fob momma on the road. Who needs sunscreen when you can have multicolor arm sheaths?
Had I not had my tubes tied, I do believe I would have appeared on this tumblelog. Three ai-yahs for mymomisafob!
Episode 3: Catfish Kiev
Russian catfish, admittedly, does not sound all too appetizing, but all you pesca-curious cats have to trust Suki Suki on this. Once you try a bite of this deliciously juicy yet firm fresh fusion feast, you simply must have the recipe!
Ingredients:
2 Fillets of Catfish (US farmed and eco-friendly please)
1 Egg
1/2 Cup of margarine
1/2 Cup of basil
2 Cloves of garlic
1 Cup of bread crumbs
Set the oven at 400 F. If you don’t have bread crumbs readily available, this is also a good opportunity to make use of the heat and toast some bread. Finely chop the garlic and basil, and mix them into the margarine or butter-substitute of your choosing (or butter for those of you who don’t have to worry about cankles).
Lay the fillets of catfish on a flat surface and spread the basil-garlic-margarine mixture evenly on each. Tightly roll the fillets into a log, completely encapsulating the margarine. Use toothpicks to keep the structure steady (much like how Lucille Ball kept her face up).
Beat the egg with some water (less than a teaspoon should do) and place it in a bowl large enough to dip the catfish logs into. Place the bread crumbs in a separate bowl.
Heat about a half an inch of vegetable oil in a saute pan over medium heat.
Roll each catfish log in the bread crumbs to cover completely, then dip into the egg mixture, and then once more roll the log in the bread crumbs. Saute the fillets, sealed-side down, and cook until golden brown on each side. Don’t overdo it - this is just to keep the logs nice and tan.
Bake the catfish logs in the 400 degree oven for between 15 - 17 minutes.
It may take some practice and some getting used to, but Suki Suki knows this is one piece of USSR pussy(fish) that even Katya would enjoy.
Hugs, rainbows and all that shit,
-Suki Suki

Review: The Village Pet Store and Grill
Suki Suki has a new favorite eatery.
From affable turds, to bouncing bologna, The Village Pet Store and Grill, on Seventh ave between West 4th and Bleecker, has it all. There’s nothing like crispy baby chick deep-fried and bouncing into a vat of bbq sauce for your viewing pleasure — try as Suki did, she was pinned down by the wonderfully amiable staff before she could grab hold and take a bite out of the precious animatronic animals. Therefore Banksy’s culinary skill will remain a mystery, for now.
I give it, and the pleasant chimp porn on display, three Michelin tires out of three.
